Ruth Vallis

Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, we meet a spectacular person who became blind before the age of three and overcame so much adversity with her positive and incredible attitude. Ruth Vallis went to the Ontario School for the Blind in Brantford for 2 years as a young child and was the first blind student to be integrated into the public school system in Toronto. A physiotherapist, she got her degree in London, England at a school for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Her book Love is Blind is a page turner and beyond inspirational.

For 23 years, Richard Nester was a welcome fixture in all of our living rooms as a beloved on air personality. When he made the on air announcement that he was leaving TSC, not only was he emotional, but so were all of his colleagues and everyone watching all over the world. We’ll talk about some of the highlights of his career and what he’s up to now, and he will also sing on the program!

Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, Carolyn Tanner Cohen will be here, the chef and founder of the Delicious Dish Cooking School. It is our 100th episode!!! Michelle Yu (she/her) is a Toronto-based artist who is about to enter her final year at Sheridan College in the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance Program. Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, we celebrate the uber talented cartoonist and illustrator Josh Rosen. Josh has done illustration work for magazines, websites, animation projects, documentary films, and roleplaying games. He is also the illustrator of the bestselling Graphic novel The Good Fight, which he collaborated on with author Ted Staunton (Scholastic Canada, 2021). The Good Fight is rightfully getting lots of praise and critical acclaim.

Fabiana Bacchini is the author of From Surviving to Thriving, a Mother’s Journey Through Infertility, Loss and Miracles. Fabiana, after years of infertility, had a son and then became pregnant with twins, but only one of them survived. Gabriel, the surviving twin, while faced with cerebral palsy, is a living miracle. He joins his mother on the program and will be singing for us. Also on the program we have Michelle Newman. For more than a decade Michelle has been one of Toronto’s most in demand Vocal Coaches. Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, we have the beautiful and talented TV personality Melissa Grelo of CTV’s The Social. She’s also known for co-hosting Toronto’s most-watched morning news program, CP24 Breakfast. On the popular program The Social (her brainchild), Melissa has been co-host and moderator since the show first hit the airwaves in 2013. Melissa has also been part of leading important discussions with change makers, authors and some of the hottest celebrities and musicians from around the globe. In addition to covering the 2013 Academy Awards, she also co-hosted the Olympics for CTV in 2010. She hosts important network broadcasts, like the Bell Let’s Talk mental health special with Howie Mandel, and she reports for special events like the last two royal weddings.

Countermeasure music

Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, the award-winning Canadian a capella group Countermeasure. Anyone who has seen the film Pitch Perfect knows that there is something instantly feel-good about a group of talented singers who sing without instrumental accompaniment. Think everything from pop to jazz to original music, and their voices alone make it all happen musically. Artistic Director Aaron Jensen and one of their singers, Hayley Preziosi, are on the program to tell you all about what makes Countermeasure Canada’s leading a capella group, so joyful, so creative and so infectious! We will also hear some songs from their latest album, Guest Sessions​. ​Countermeasure has just released the video for Hold On - the first single from their concept album, ​Guest Sessions​. Countermeasure's musical director, Aaron Jensen, composed Hold On, inspired by a conversation with bandmate and vocal soloist Qwyn Alexis. The song reflects the experiences of motherhood: the fear and helplessness of setting your children out into the world, and the hope that by instilling them with love, decency, and pride, they'll be equipped to face whatever life has in store. Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, we're celebrating with our annual Holiday Episode! Joining us on the program is America's Got Talent’s ​Golden Buzzer Winner, Roberta Battaglia. Ten years old at the time, Roberta’s outstanding performance had an incredible 22 million views on Youtube in only two weeks. This beyond-talented vocalist from Toronto, Canada also contributed a very important performance at​ ​Idea City,​​ presented by our very own Moses Znaimer, who described Roberta at the time as a nine year-old powerhouse!! She will sing on the show this week, and tell us all what she is up to right now!

Also joining us for our annual holiday show is film and television critic Thom Ernst, who is back with all of his favourite picks for movies and television series this Christmas. Thom was the voice of The Interviews on TVO’s longest running movie program Saturday Night at the Movies. Thom also has his own podcast with the Kingston Canadian Film Festival called Rewind, Fast Forward. Also, we are delighted to welcome back Nina Turin as our Featured Artist with a special Christmas carol just for us at the end of the show! Ofra Harnoy and Mike Herriott

Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, we have world-renowned cellist Ofra Harnoy and Canadain trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Mike Herriott. Ofra Harnoy has established herself as one of the greatest cellists on the world’s concert stage. She is one of Canada’s most celebrated personalities and is a member of the Order of Canada. She has recorded more than 40 solo albums and commands a vast repertoire. She has won many awards and distinctions for her recordings, including five JUNO Awards. Ofra’s husband and collaborator is Canadian trumpeter Mike Herriott. Mike is a multi-instrumentalist in both the classical and jazz genres, and is in huge demand as a lead trumpeter, jazz improviser, orchestral soloist, bassist, arranger and composer. Mike has toured extensively with a host of luminaries, including Doc Severinsen, Michael Buble, Seth MacFarlane, and more. Mike's vast recording career includes sessions with Michael Bublé, Jann Arden, Paul Brandt, and for Warner, Universal, Sony, Disney, CBC, CTV, and NBC. Olivia earned a BFA in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. On this episode of Finding Your Bliss, we have a show dedicated to two wonderful women: The first is Victoria Banks a singer-songwriter who has been nominated for 11 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards and was named CCMA Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year in 2010. He achieves this by doing at home personal training, and is even doing virtual training by Zoom, Skype and FaceTime. Canadian Broadcasting Icon Dini Petty and Psychotherapist and Author Victoria Lorient Faibish

Canadian Broadcasting icon Dini Petty guest stars on Finding Your Bliss this week. She became a household name in the 1970s when she was the first woman to fly a pink helicopter, while simultaneously broadcasting traffic reports for the radio station ‘CKEY’. She has been described as Canada’s Oprah, and she was part of the original and groundbreaking City TV News Team, for City Pulse News. Also she was the trailblazing, original host of City TV’s City Line and the celebrated host of the award-winning and longest running national television talk show in the country. She has conducted over 20,000 interviews and talks on the show about notable celebrities such as Red Skelton, Sarah the Duchess of York, Lauren Bacall, Harrison Ford, Cloris Leachman, just to name a few. In recent years Dini has turned her love of poetry into a bestselling children’s book, The Queen, the Bear and The Bumblebee, and she has been nominated and recognized for numerous awards for her talk show and documentary work. As well we also hear about her charity work and the exciting projects she has coming up. Singing and How to Become a More Powerful Performer

On today’s show we’re talking about something that many of us love to do. Mindfulness is a meditative technique that falls under the broader umbrella of Meditation. According to our first guest, Yoga and Meditation Teacher and lawyer, Josh Cohen, “meditation is the state of being completely at one with what is arising in the present moment, such that the subject/object/ paradigm dissolves completely.” Also on this episode, mindfulness, meditation and movement instructor, speaker, and integrative coach Linda Janasz talks all about her experience with Mindfulness Meditation.. Fertility and Finding Your Bliss

This week on Finding Your Bliss, we tackle Infertility. For many of us, bliss is having a family, but for one in six couples in Canada who suffer from infertility, this can be heartbreaking, painful and beyond stressful. Thanks to people like our first guest, Fertility specialist and reproductive endocrinologist Dr. Clifford Librach, who is the founder of Create Fertility Centre, many people are able to overcome this painful struggle and have a family of their own. Also on the show, we meet Fertility counsellor Jan Silverman who also personally struggled with infertility and helps other people with their struggle, and Dr. Mary Wong, registered traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and registered acupuncturist and author of Pathways to Pregnancy: personal stories and practical advice on your fertility journey.

Extraordinary Work in Cancer Research-ICRF
