As an independent host and producer for two shows, “Run With It,” a running, fitness, and health program, and an entertainment program called “The Closing Act,” it can be a challenge to fit in exercising with many deadlines, meetings, and other responsibilities.

How do we make time to fit in our workouts?

The key is to plan the workouts in advance. I will share some key points on how to start, how to keep it going, the benefits, and how staying active can improve your business.

How do I start?

Choose an activity that you will stick with. Perhaps choosing a new exercise routine might be the biggest motivator as it is an opportunity to explore another workout. The key is to enjoy what you are doing!

I love to run, and exercising on a regular basis has helped me be more productive. In addition, I enjoy the endorphins you get from running and it is a confidence booster, as well as great for your mindset!

How to keep it going?

Set realistic fitness goals. It is important to set short-term and long-term goals. Choose a program that works for your lifestyle AND fitness level. I write down in my calendar everything I intend to do pre and post-workout. Investing in a fitness app such as Fitbit or Smart Watch helps to track your steps and sleep patterns.

To enhance performance and keep you healthy, follow healthy eating habits. Consult a nutritionist or a registered dietitian if possible. For myself, in the morning, I eat steel-cut oats before working out, about two hours before running. I drink plenty of fluids. I LOVE my coffee and will replace it with a glass of water.

Add cross-training into the mix. I run, yet incorporate walking into my routine. I like to often change my routes and terrain to stay motivated and can help to stay injury-free.

Make it part of your self-care routine - I call it “My appointment with Myself.” When I can’t fit my workout in, I end up doing something! Walk up the stairs, walk around the block. This gives me a sense of accomplishment. There are so many activities to choose from, and the key is to be patient with yourself and listen to your body to avoid injuries. By scheduling your workouts in, it will be easier to stick to your program. Make it part of your regular self-care regimen.

What are the benefits?

I am more productive in my work and helps me to think clearer, and again a major confidence booster. Exercising helps with your immune system as well. It is while running I am most creative or problem solve.

I can also just think about nothing, and this helps to be more present. Making the time to workout pays dividends in other areas in your life.
