I believe we are all creative. Full stop. As creative people, we go on magical mystery tours within ourselves daily. There is so much to do, see, feel, experience and task ourselves on this journey of life. On the quest to create, build, ideate, survive, get through, and innovate, we start to run on a wheel that sometimes takes us nowhere. There are lots of ways we do this and find ourselves here or nowhere often. If you can connect with the essence of what I am explaining……
I recommend standing still and looking for something to play with.
We get so far down the road to adulting ourselves through it all, that anything that feels fun or looks too colourful is deemed childish and silly. When did the simple and pure magical things become so forbidden?
Why do we tell ourselves, no matter how old we are, that something is too childish? We are all children of the world, no matter how old we are! We are all looking for JOY & for me the best way to find JOY is through the simplest avenues!
Colour! Scribble! Paint! Bead, glue something, cut, build, rip it, take something apart, buy a toy, use your hands, make something messy, and put glitter on it. Make a card, hop instead of walk. Sing out loud, say how you feel, wear something colourful and fun! Even if it is just a pair of earrings, pull that thing out that you think is special or too dressy and rock it. Eat something that you want to eat. Blast a happy song! Blow bubbles, bring your magic wand to work. Wear a bright lip colour or a cape grocery shopping. Find something or someone that can make you laugh out loud.
I think you get the point.
When we stand still long enough to figure out what it is that we want to play with, we start creating space to find our joy. Finding play means finding joy, even if it is only momentary.
I highly recommend getting swept up. Getting excited or caught up in something.
If it is an art project, painting a wall, adding fringe onto a shirt, or cutting up something to make it better. Go nuts. Have fun with it. Nothing is forever and everything in temporary. If you make something or some things, then give them away. They do not need to be perfect and framed in your house forever as the example of the one time you created. Create for creating’s sake & not because it must be anything. It just has to feel good to do.
In a world where there is so much to get caught up in. So much to feel & get upset about, the bravest and most effective use of your time is to find some true play and squeeze out the joy. If you can find a way to do this, you will pass this wisdom along and inspire someone else to do the same.
When we get back to our regularly scheduled programs, we know that through play we have a place to go to let it all out again when we need to. A playful place that keeps us off the wheel and keeps us exploring our inner kingdom of magical colours.
Play is the gateway drug to our inner child who always has lots of wisdom to share. We stray so far away from where we started. But in the end, it is where we started that holds the gold to where we can find our joy time and again.
GO HAVE SOME! FUN! LOVE YOU!
