Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt (skip or reduce if butter is salted)
  • 3/4–1 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • Flaky sea salt (for finishing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt butter (microwave or stovetop), let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix wet ingredients
    • Stir butter + sugars until smooth, then mix in egg + vanilla.
  4. Add dry ingredients
    • Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate
  6. Scoop dough
    • 1.5–2 tbsp per cookie, spaced out (they will spread).
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes
    • Edges: golden
    • Centers: still soft (they’ll set as they cool)
  8. Immediately sprinkle flaky sea salt on top
  9. Cool on tray for ~5 mins, then transfer to a rack
